Interviewing Preparation                                    by Susan Silva

Does anyone feel comfortable with interviews?  I don't think so, but those who feel confident and  in control will out shine those who are nervous and skeptical.

Interview question:.  First be prepared.  Answering questions without umms and pauses.  Project your answers clearly and concisely.  This will convey to the prospective employer you are self-confident and project a positive image.  Listen closely to the interviewers questions.  React to what is being said, smile and show you are interested in the questions. Make eye contact and remember you can answer with body language as well as spoken words.  Before you go on an interview go over your answers.  Make a list of questions that may be asked and be prepared in how you will answer them.  My list of questions that I keep and go over before an interview is:

    • Tell us about yourself.

    • What is your short/long term work objective?

    • Where would you like to be in 5 years?

    • Why should we consider you rather then someone else for the position?

    • What is your greatest weakness/strength?

    • Why did you leave  your last position?

    • What did you think of your last boss?

    • What interests you about the position?

    • Can you work under pressure?

    • How would you describe your personality?

    • What do you know about the company?

    • How would you rate yourself in your technical skills?

    • Why do you want to work for the hiring company?

It is important to be prepared for the answers.  An example, "What is your biggest weakness?"  Unprepared you may bolt out the first thing that comes to mind, "I am always running late".  If you are prepared for the question you may be able to turn a weakness question into a actual strength.  "One weakness is I tend to take on more then I can handle, but in the long run they get completed on time and I end up learning more."   Add to the list your own questions, when you go on an interview and get asked a question that you are un prepared for, write it down and the next time you will know the answer!

If you have any "questions" that have been asked and would like to share them with other admins so they may be prepared, please send them to susan@adminprof.com.
